Small business start-up activity is alive and well in northern Adelaide.  According to ATO data, there were 578 ABN registrations for the last 12 months (01/04/15 to 12/04/16) for individuals and partnerships who registered with an email address.

The hot spots for new ABN registrations in northern Adelaide are (for postcodes):

Jodie Gaffney shares her marketing insights at the June Northern Business Breakfast

Connecting businesses and getting great ideas for stretching your marketing dollar in tough times was the clear message at the June Northern Business Breakfast (NBB) today (June 24, 2015).

140 plus businesses attending today got some great marketing tips from Jodie Gaffney of G Advertising. A clear thread from Jodie’s presentation was to “give” your potential customer useful information that will help their buying decision without any hard sell!

In today’s world of social media where customers are getting detailed information about products and services on the Internet you need to be active in this space. Jodie’s message was to supply useful information to buyers about your product area which enables you to build an online rapport with your potential customers.

A great example Jodie gave was of a cooking supply business using social media to ensure customers had good product information which increased their sales from 5 units per week for some products to over 300!

As the event’s other speaker, Rob Rowe from Bendigo Bank discussed the connection his branch has to the community. The Elizabeth branch of the Bendigo Bank are avid users of social media with Facebook being an important communication channel. Make sure you connect with them on their Facebook page.

Several of our events during the year are designed to showcase businesses operating in our region.Our last event was held at the “The Decorator Room” which is located at shop, 2 & 3/2 Anderson Walk, Smithfield was an intimate affair with 24 business women sharing a delicious High Tea.  The owner, Jay, talked about how she was able to turn her dream to own a homeware store and café into reality. Being in business can be lonely at times, but being part of a network and hearing about the journey other business owners have taken is a great source of ideas and inspiration.

On 21 May we get the chance to learn from Matthew Michalewicz who grew his last business from zero to almost 180 employees and $20 million in revenue.  Matthew will focus on the critical factors that make the difference between starvation and success in any small business and provide insights and actions to improve business performance.

SA Business Events iPhone App

SA Business Events iPhone AppOver the last few months the guys at Custom Business Apps have been pulling together a really neat mobile app, SA Business Events, to make booking and attending the free Digital Enterprise Program events even easier. If you have an iPhone or an iPad you can download the app on The App Store now.

The SA Business Events app was put together to help businesses booked into Digital Enterprise Program workshops make bookings from their mobile devices and aid them to find and keep their bookings using their mobile device’s reminders with push notifications.

Custom Business Apps are an Adelaide based business (formerly based here in Mawson Lakes) and Digital Enterprise Program participant who have proven to be a great business to work with. Their innovative, can-do attitude has made the development process a breeze.Fellow Digital Enterprise Program participant and local business owner Peter Mathew from The Silencer, also recently built a mobile application with Custom Business Apps and has said “The Silencer iPhone application allows you to test for noisy conditions by placing your iPhone 5 meters from the source of the noise.”
